Thanksgiving 2009 Partnership with Chef Sean Langan: Cafe Amore
This was a most incredible Thanksgiving
- the third year Chef Sean Langan hosted Thanksgiving at Cafe
Amore, the 20+ year Chef Francois and later The Friends of Francois have served
Thanksgiving, and the first year that we partnered with Chef Sean who really
knows how to throw a party. What a party it was.
I learned that it took approximately 1,230 people served today to eat just over
66 turkeys with the accompanying dressing, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans
and desserts. Compliments to the chef were repeatedly received at the
Outdoor Meal Site where most of the Friends of Francois volunteers were.
Myshia, Operation Sack Lunch, joined the fun while sheparding our stay.
Cole (official counter) shouted when we served 200 dinners at 6th & Columbia. At 2:30,
our closing time, we took enough to serve another 50 to Nickelsville, currently
a guest at New Hope Baptist.
Cafe Amore staff and volunteers served over 440 guests at 5th & Bell. Chef Sean had
boxed Thanksgiving dinners delivered (150 here, 50 there, 30 and on and on) to
Day Workers, OccidentalPark, VictorSteinbruckPark (and on and
on). The list of numbers and locations exceed/boggle my memory. All
of this was made possible using a very wide range of donors, individual
volunteers and groups from across this city.
There was so much joy today sharing Thanksgiving. Thank you all for
everything.
